- “It is time for us in Freising to remember the inhumane fate of Johann Rannertshauser. Permanent. We owe it to him as well as to all the other victims of the Nazi reign of terror! ”Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher found haunting words on Friday about the unveiling of the Freising Stolperstein with the number 18 on Jahnstrasse. What became clear at the small memorial service: Not all the stories of the Freising victims have been told yet.
Now, according to the history advisor Dr.
Guido Hoyer, he is no longer just Johann R., as abbreviated in archive pieces.
Rannertshauser is torn from oblivion by the stumbling block, and the memory of him as a person is brought back into everyday life.
In order to shed light on precisely this life, senior teacher Andreas Decker went on a search for clues and recorded the findings in a publication.
Doctors declare Rannertshauser a feeble-minded psychopath
Born in Freising in 1913, Rannertshauser did not enjoy long school days, often changed jobs and later attracted attention through begging and vagrancy. He is arrested again and again for this reason. If he initially only has a lack of intelligence and gaps in knowledge, the diagnoses increase rapidly: Rannertshauser, according to the doctors, is an insane, schizoid psychopath. He was publicly dangerous because he made derogatory remarks about Goering and Goebbels in times of war.
The healing and care facility in Kaufbeuren became the last place of residence of the victim of Nazi "euthanasia".
On April 28, 1945, Rannertshauser, forcibly sterilized, officially died of enteritis - however, according to Decker, it was more likely that he lost his life from malnutrition through E-food (withdrawal food) and undiscovered diseases.

The family grave poses a little riddle.
There is chiseled “Vergast in Dachau”.
For Hoyer, the grave is therefore a contemporary document for the post-war period when Dachau stood for all crimes of the Nazi era.
Because it was important to the family that everyone could read that their son had been murdered, according to Hoyer, the grave must remain unchanged as a memorial.
What he wants, however: an explanatory plaque next to the final resting place.
Because in Dachau was not gassed, but among other things in Hartheim Castle near Linz, the "Reichstötungsanstalt" for the mentally ill and handicapped.
At least 34 people from the Freising district were murdered there.
Over 400 people in the district were labeled “hereditary”, many stories have not yet been told.
The memories of these people, emphasized Eschenbacher, must take place among us.
