The Ministry of Health announced tonight (Sunday) that starting tomorrow, appointments will be renewed for the first dose of the corona virus vaccine.

This is in accordance with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's announcement earlier today about the renewed deal with Pfizer, according to which 200,000 vaccine doses will arrive in Israel on August 1.

At the same time, the Vaccines Committee decided tonight not to sweepily recommend to the Ministry of Health to vaccinate the elderly, including those living in nursing homes, as well as children under the age of 12 who have background illnesses or live with immunosuppressants.

Professor Galia Rahav, a senior member of the Immunization Committee (CTO), explained to Walla! Comprehensive we did.

The decision on the elderly must also be made on the basis of research and a decision must be made to conduct it. "

Prof. Rahav added that "there were opinions here and there. We see that there is a decrease in the effectiveness of the vaccine, but it is not clear to us whether it is because time has passed since receiving the vaccine or because of new mutations - that is why research is needed."

At this point, the committee continues to make sweeping recommendations only for immunosuppressed vaccines over the age of 16 in a third dose, as decided last week. Another senior member of the committee also told Walla! Because no further recommendation has yet been formulated due to many internal disagreements.

Despite the committee's recommendation, the HMOs emphasize that at the moment, it is still unclear who is considered "vaccine-suppressed." The United Health Insurance Fund announced that in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, in addition to the vaccine in the first dose, it will be possible to receive a third vaccine dose for immunosuppressed people "according to criteria to be determined soon," as well as a first dose for virus recoverers. "We call on anyone over the age of 12 who have not yet been vaccinated to arrive as soon as possible and get vaccinated against the corona virus," the fund said.

The Maccabi Health Fund also called on their insured to come and get vaccinated: "Following the announcement by the Ministry of Health, tonight Maccabi announced that starting tomorrow, it will be possible to get vaccinated for the first dose by making an appointment in advance."

Earlier today, the four HMOs complained that the Ministry of Health did not instruct them to open appointments for the first dose of the vaccine or an orderly instruction to give a third dose to vaccine-suppressed people.

This, after Bennett's call at the weekly cabinet meeting: "Go out today to get vaccinated", as well as his announcement that Pfizer's vaccine stock taken before August will ensure "a continuous stock of vaccines. There are vaccines for everyone, there is currently a first and second dose in stock".

Before the Ministry of Health update, HMO officials harshly criticized the new government: "This government did not understand that every statement of its kind should be backed up by instructions to us. There is a lot of 'network chatter' without any proper guidelines. It seems they have not yet realized they are in government or opposition."
