Stunned at the Weingärtner car dealership in Miesbach: A customer went into hiding with a rental car worth 30,000 euros.

An international manhunt is now in progress.

Miesbach

- Nobody at the Weingärtner car dealership in Miesbach became suspicious when the owner of an accident vehicle drove a rental car from the farm after it was handed in on June 4th.

Why also: "It was a good customer from us," reports service manager Andreas Humer.

A good month later, however, there is no trace of this customer - and of the dealership's white Golf 8 as well.

The latter has recently been advertised for international manhunt.

The customer delivers an accident vehicle and receives a rental car - which he never returns

The story sounds almost like a movie.

It begins at the beginning of June when a tow truck unloads the accident vehicle of the customer in question at the Weingärtner dealership.

He will receive a rental car for the time of the repair - a completely normal process.

It soon turns out, however, that the customer's vehicle has suffered a total economic loss.

The dealership therefore asks for the borrowed Golf to be returned by June 11th, and the customer for a delay.

Not unusual either, says Humer.

"We were still in contact." But it tears off on June 16.

“We haven't heard from him since,” says the stunned service manager.

A request from the customer's employer (he gave the car dealership the work phone number himself) shows that the customer went on vacation at short notice.

But he never returned from there.

Further research reveals that the customer has not had a registered address for about a month.

By then, at the latest, it becomes clear to the dealership: The customer has gone into hiding - together with the 7,000 kilometer old VW Golf 8 worth around 30,000 euros.

He left his junk car with Weingärtner - and, as a precaution, deleted all destination entries from the navigation system beforehand.

Police investigate embezzlement and search internationally

In the meantime, the dealership has filed a complaint with the police for embezzlement.

They advertised the rental vehicle with the registration number MB-GO-4444 for international manhunt.

In the VW internal database, the chassis number has been provided with a corresponding note if the customer in hiding should go to a workshop.

In addition, Humer printed out leaflets with the inscription “Vehicle missing!” Along with a photo of the car and, for example, hung them up at the neighboring gas station.

No hints have been received so far, says the service manager.

A technical location of the white Golf 8 is ruled out.

“A navigation system can only receive data, not send it,” explains Humer.

A special function that allows the last parking position to be saved and retrieved, for example, is not activated for rental vehicles.

"Data protection," sighs Humer.

The only hope that remains is that the automatic emergency call will be triggered in the car.

But that only happens in an accident, says Humer.

And a junk car is actually enough for the dealership.
