Markus Söder has been dreaming of space for a long time, now his plans have come a little closer: A gigantic project was inaugurated in the Munich district on Monday.

Ottobrunn - Prime Minister Markus Söders Bavarian space plans * are making progress on the ground: The Technical University of Munich inaugurated its new faculty building for aerospace research in Ottobrunn on Monday, with the CSU chief among the guests.

At the same time, the university announced a new scientific cooperation with the French rocket manufacturer Ariane.

Söder on space research: "Bavaria should become the Space Valley in Germany"

Research projects for launch vehicles and industrial automation are planned.

"Bavaria should become the Space Valley in Germany and also in Europe," said Söder.

When Söder announced the Bavarian space program "Bavaria One *" in 2018, he had received ridicule from many quarters - including from today's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger, who called the plans "Bavarian megalomania *".

“Nobody smiles today,” said Söder.

New faculty in the Munich district as the centerpiece of the space research program

The Faculty of Aviation, Space Travel and Geodesy - the science of earth surveying - is now equipped with a new building and is the core of the space research program. With 55 professorships, the faculty is to be the largest of its kind in Europe. According to Söders, 23 are already occupied.

Long before Markus Söders * had any plans, there was and still is a Franco-German turmoil behind the scenes in the aerospace industry.

The most important aerospace company in Europe is the Airbus group, which is increasingly dominated by French.

The ArianeGroup, in turn, is a joint venture between Airbus and the French company Safran. Ariane is based in Paris.
