A deadly heat wave is sweeping the western United States, and in many areas temperatures have come close to breaking an all-time record. In "Death Valley" in California, one of the hottest places on earth, it was recorded yesterday (Sunday) again 54 degrees, after on Saturday they had already reached 54.4. Most tourists in the area got out of their cars just to be photographed with the thermometer.

The heat wave, which has spread to most of the northwestern United States, is weighing down on major power grids, including one in southern Oregon that threatens 1,200 homes and buildings.
The "Bottleg" fire, which broke out on Tuesday, consumed 580 square kilometers in and near a national forest, and as of yesterday the fire has not yet been brought under control. Of Oregon and California, and states fear power outages in thousands of homes and businesses.
