Shock in Augsburg: On Saturday, a tree fell on a playground where a mother (28) with two children (22 months, 5) was staying.
The little daughter died.
Augsburg - The accident came out of the blue: There was no storm, the sun was shining as the children romped around on the climbing frame of the playground on Dieselstrasse.
"We had just set the tables for communions that we had," reported Alfon Tanushi, manager of the Italian restaurant Il Gladiatore right next to the playground yesterday.
"Suddenly we heard something crack and a scream," remembers Tanushi.

He rushed to the playground with his brother and three employees to help. Four construction workers from a neighboring construction site also hurried over. The helpers saw a terrible picture: the girl and mother were lying directly under the trunk, they were trapped. Tanushi: "The ten of us tried to lift the tree with our bare hands to save the two of them." Only the mother was able to rescue the men, seriously injured. Then the construction workers fetched a telehandler from their construction site with which they could finally lift the tree away. Tanuishi: "We put the little one on the meadow, she looked like unconscious."
By the time the ambulance arrived, the eyewitnesses tried to reanimate the little girl while the five-year-old sister was looked after by other parents who were also there.
Until the father arrived, rescue workers took care of the little one.
Paramedics brought mother and daughter to the university clinic, the doctors fought for hours for their lives, in vain: the 22-month-old girl died on Saturday evening.
First aider Tanushi is still in shock the day after the accident: "That was the worst day of my life."

It is still unclear why the 20 meter high tree with a trunk diameter of 60 to 80 centimeters fell over.
The landowner is the city. * According to city spokesman Christopher Raabe, the trees in the city's green spaces are regularly checked.
The maple had been torn from its deep roots just above the ground.
A tree expert has been called in to further investigations.
The police has started investigation.

The soil softened by prolonged rainfall was given as the cause of the accident.
