Colombia confirms the identity of 21 suspects in the murder in Haiti

Colombian authorities confirmed the identity of 21 Colombians suspected of the assassination of the President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse.

The director of the National Police of Colombia, General Jorge Luis Vargas, said this Monday that in coordination with the national office of Interpol in Haiti they have corroborated the identity of 21 Colombians, 3 of them dead and the other 18 captured by the government of Haiti, suspected of having participated in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, perpetrated on Wednesday.

Haitian Police Chief Leon Charles announced Sunday that authorities have arrested a man they claim helped orchestrate the assassination of President Moïse.

The arrested suspect, identified as Christian Emmanuel Sanon, 63, entered the country on a private jet in June, Charles said at a news conference.

It is not yet clear whether Sanon already has legal representation to face possible criminal charges and he has not publicly commented on the allegations either.

General Vargas explained that the Interpol investigation team and the Colombian Migration team found that "19 air tickets were purchased through a credit card registered in Miami, belonging to a security company registered in that place" and that the government He has already asked the Interpol office in the United States for details of the company.

Vargas added that there is a record that some retired Colombian soldiers had communication with at least one suspect in the attack.

The director of the Colombian Police added that more than 10,000 data, 806 images and 22 police interviews have been processed as part of the investigation being carried out in Colombia and at the request of the Haitian government.

Vargas said that the Colombian delegation that is in Port-au-Prince has already delivered part of that documentation to the Haitian authorities.

Defense Minister Diego Molano, who participated in this Monday's press conference, reiterated that the Colombian government will continue to collaborate with the Haitian authorities until what happened is clarified.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this Sunday on its Twitter account that it coordinates with the authorities in Haiti the mechanisms to provide consular assistance to detained Colombians.
