Höchstadt - The Franconian city was hit by heavy storms with persistent rain over the weekend.

The rain caused flooding and flooding throughout the city.

At times, Höchstadt * could only be reached via an access road.

The surrounding towns of Neustadt an der Aisch * and Ansbach also had to struggle with the consequences of the storm and even declared a disaster.

According to the police in Middle Franconia *, an 18-year-old had a minor traffic accident on the A3.

The towing service picked up her car and the young woman wanted a friend to pick her up in Gremsdorf.

However, she navigated her cell phone directly through a floodplain on the road connecting Höchstadt to Gremsdorf.

The 18-year-old tried to cross the area on foot despite the warning signs.

Since the Aisch had a width of approx. 200 meters and a depth of up to 1.50 meters at this point due to the high water, the attempt failed.

The enormous mass of water carried the young woman with them.

Residents noticed the 18-year-olds' calls for help and called the police. When the officers arrived, the young woman tried unsuccessfully to swim against the current and was threatened with drowning. Since attempts to calm the woman down via a loudspeaker announcement failed, a 39-year-old police officer jumped into the tidal wave and tried to save the woman.

The trained lifeguard was able to "reach the woman and secure her with a lifeline," as the police reported.

Together they made it to the bank.

The young woman suffered mild hypothermia and shock.

Shortly afterwards, her friend picked her up at the Höchstadt hospital.

Due to the accident, the police have issued an urgent warning against disregarding flood warning signs and entering the river with its sometimes considerable currents.
