Officers of the Kwai Chung Police Station cracked a taxi-carrying drug case, arrested the driver and a male passenger, and seized more than $700,000 in suspected Perak cocaine.
According to the police, at about 9pm yesterday (11th) evening, during a patrol on Sheung Kok Street in Kwai Chung, officers found a taxi looking suspicious, so they stepped forward to intercept and search, and seized a rubber in the seat of a male passenger in the car. The bag and an eco-friendly bag, containing a total of about 460 grams of suspected crack cocaine.
The 19-year-old passenger surnamed Ye Nan and the 45-year-old taxi driver surnamed Shao Nan were arrested on suspicion of "drug trafficking." They are being detained for investigation.
The total market value of the drugs seized during the operation was about 740,000 yuan.
The police reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious crime. According to the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Chapter 134 of the Laws of Hong Kong, once convicted, the maximum penalty is a fine of 5 million yuan and life imprisonment. The public should not try the law on their own.
