President Yitzhak Herzog spoke today (Monday) with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who congratulated him on taking office.
During the conversation, the presidents emphasized that Israel-Turkey relations are of great importance for security and stability in the Middle East, and that there is a high potential for cooperation between the two countries in many areas, including energy, tourism and technology.
This was the first conversation between Erdogan and a senior Israeli official since July 2017, when the Turkish president spoke with President Rivlin about the crisis of the magnetometers on the Temple Mount.
During their talks, Herzog and Erdogan noted the importance of continuing contacts between the two countries, despite the differences, "in order to promote positive steps to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that will also contribute to improving Israel-Turkey relations," the President's Office said in a statement.
The presidents further concluded that despite the corona plague, bilateral trade between the countries would expand and open economic ties.
