From the
Cuban embassy in Argentina
, located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of
Belgrano
, demonstrators joined this Sunday the day of unprecedented protests in
Havana
against the government of Cuba.
It was after thousands of Cubans took to the streets in Havana and other parts of the island to protest
shortages, high food prices and power cuts
.
The convocation in
Buenos Aires
- the concentration was in Virrey del Pino 1810, where the embassy is located - began shortly before 6 p.m. and ended at 8 p.m.

The demonstration was also repeated in the capital of other Latin American countries, such as
Santiago de Chile
(Chile), Lima (Peru) and Montevideo (Uruguay).
Flags with the legends "Cuba libre" were seen at the Cuban embassy in Argentina.
There were honks and shouts of "Freedom!"
and
"Homeland and life!"
.
This last expression sought to generate a counterpoint with the historical phrase of
Ernesto "Che" Guevara
of
"Always fatherland or death",
which emerges from a letter from the Argentine revolutionary guerrilla to
Fidel Castro.

"Patria y vida"
is also the lyrics of a song - performed by artists such as Gente de Zona, Maikel Osorbo, Yotuel Romero - that also sounded at the embassy on Belgrano street in the City of Buenos Aires and that is a reference for dissenters.
The truth is that this day of protests in Cuba was one of the largest in decades against the Cuban government, which described the demonstrations as a campaign promoted on social networks by its
detractors outside the island.
"
We are fed up with the queues, the shortages. That's why I'm here
," a man in his 40s told the AP international agency.
The event could make history, since it is the first time that a large group of Cubans have taken to the streets of Havana to protest against the Government since the famous
"Maleconazo"
of 1994.
The government's response
"As if pandemic outbreaks had not existed throughout the world,
the Cuban-American mafia
, paying very well, on social networks to influencers and youtubers, has created a whole campaign ... and has called for demonstrations throughout the country '' President Miguel Díaz-Canel replied to journalists in San Antonio de los Baños.
"The energy situation seems to be the one that raised some spirits here," Diaz-Canel acknowledged, blaming the US sanctions imposed by Donald Trump and that Joe Biden has so far left unchanged.
"If you want the people to be better off, lift the blockade first," imposed since 1962, he added.
The protests occurred on a day in which Cuba registered a new daily record of infections and deaths from the coronavirus, with 6,923 reported cases for a total of 238,491 and 47 deaths in 24 hours, adding a total of 1,537 deaths.
