Freising

- The SPD Bundestag candidate Andreas Mehltretter and the Bundestag member and spokesman for the AG Democracy in the SPD parliamentary group spoke about "brown politics in a black coat", i.e. how right-wing and anti-constitutional statements about politics find their way into the center of society , Helge Lindh, at the invitation of Jusos Freising.

And criticized the CDU.

"Doomed" approach

Helge Lindh, who is known for his commitment against right-wing populism in the Bundestag, explained in his opening statement why more and more right-wing populist voices are being heard within the Union. Contrary to popular belief, this has not only happened in the last few years. The Merkel era only blurred this from public perception. Especially through right-wing populist statements, but also through right-wing positioning, the Union is catching voters in the right-wing spectrum. In particular, the lack of distancing between the CDU leadership and Hans-Georg Maaßen, who is drifting further and further into the right-wing extremist and who is a candidate for the CDU in Thuringia, shows that the Union does not delimit itself sufficiently from the far right.

The right-wing positioning, Lindh emphasized, goes so far in many cases that, for example, in a position paper of the Union on Islam, little difference to the AfD position can be seen.

This procedure to win back votes is, according to Lindh, "doomed and dangerous".

His motto: "Hold against it".

Create social perspectives for everyone

Andreas Mehltretter added solutions to how society has to deal with right-wing divisors and the dissemination of their opinions. It is important to create social perspectives for all people in our society, because especially in difficult life situations people are susceptible to radical positions, and this must be prevented. In addition, more focus should be placed on political education and organizations should be strengthened that work against right-wing populism in civil society. Mehltretter also criticized the behavior of the Christian Democrats in this context: "The CSU has been playing with the fire of right-wing rhetoric for a long time," says Mehltretter, for example when Horst Seehofer wanted to resist "immigration into the social systems" "to the last cartridge".

The end of the event was marked by an urgent appeal from the two podium guests that all democrats should stand up against right-wing ideas, including in their personal environment: "It's not always easy, but we mustn't let the enemies of our democracy take the stage," demanded Mehltretter.
