The nearly 4,500-square-meter former Tai Po Jockey Club swimming pool site on An Pong Road has been vacant since 1999. The Medical, Education and Social Services Committee of the Tai Po District Council mentioned today (12th) the development outline of the site.

The Food and Health Bureau stated that it had reserved land in the early years for the construction of "district rehabilitation centers", such as district health centers, HA community health centers, student health service centers and health assessment centers of the Department of Health, etc., to cooperate with the suggestions of residents in the district. The site will also plan to add community facilities such as a library and parking lot.

However, due to height restrictions on land use and limited site area, the government and residents have yet to reach a consensus on the construction plan.

Due to the limited land in Tai Po District, the community facilities have been insufficient to cope with the population growth in the district. In addition, the land has been vacant for more than 20 years, wasting land resources. Residents have long reached a consensus to require the vacant land to provide facilities such as libraries and study rooms. In addition to the insufficient parking spaces in the area, residents also requested additional parking lots on the site to increase parking spaces and reduce illegal parking problems in the Tai Po Centre.

The Food and Health Bureau replied that if a basement is to be built on the site and multiple facilities such as a library and a public parking lot are to be installed at the same time, at least four floors will be excavated, and the construction cost will become high, which is not cost-effective.

Therefore, we are studying various methods to reduce deep excavation, and hope that the district councils can consider submitting proposals to the Town Planning Committee on easing the restriction on building height, so that the library can be built on the ground and free up basement space for more public parking spaces. , Reduce project cost to make good use of public funds.

District Councillor: Ventilation is hindered towards high development

District Councillor Ou Zhenhua of the Tai Po District revealed that residents had already made concessions to the height restriction of the building many years ago, from the initial 3 to 4 floors suggested to the current 7 to 8 floors.

Residents in the Tai Po Centre once suggested that building too high a number of floors would obstruct the ventilation from the north-south airways into An Pang Road and affect air circulation. In addition, if the building is too high, it will cause many nearby restaurants to emit fumes and smoke. Exhaust gas from road vehicles is not easy to be blown away. Therefore, the government’s proposal for re-opening the height limit is not accepted, so as not to affect the lives of nearby residents and arouse resentment.

Budget | Appropriate 300 million yuan to build a stadium, difficult to solve the lack of community facilities

Survey: More than half of the respondents said that community facilities and services are insufficient to cope with patients with cognitive impairment

The "Broken Bridge" of the West Kowloon Corridor was abandoned at the end of 22 years. District Councillors opposed the conversion of underground parking lots.

Can the government build more transitional housing plans to destroy the ruined school buildings?
