The extension of the underground car park under the Kurgarten is a “first domino stone” for the city to change the image of Tegernsee.

Downside: The mighty linden trees in the spa garden have to go.

Tegernsee - In June 2018, when the feasibility study was presented, the city council decided to expand the Sparkasse underground car park from the current 96 to 158 parking spaces and two levels.

The parking spaces should be sufficiently wide and deep to ensure good acceptance.

At that time costs of around 6.23 million euros were in the room.

Mayor: "Everything is done on our part."

How far has the project come?

"All preparations are done on our part," says Mayor Johannes Hagn (CSU).

The preliminary planning has been completed and the soil examinations are also available.

The city hopes to deal with contractual matters this year.

Because the Kreissparkasse, according to Hagn, built the underground car park and is responsible for it.

"It's about securitized rights of use," says Hagn, because the land in the spa garden belongs to the city.

The situation must be resolved before the city tackles the project.

The spa garden is dug up for at least nine months

The construction is difficult, but feasible: the upper part of the spa garden will be dug up for at least nine months. Green city councilor Marcus Staudacher recently regretted the fact that the old linden trees in the spa gardens should disappear in the building committee. He asked if the felling was really necessary. “A spa garden without these linden trees is difficult to imagine,” said Staudacher. Building authority manager Bettina Koch admitted that the felling of the two rows of trees, in the eastern as well as in the central area, was actually necessary. This has already been discussed with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority at the District Office. There it was also found that the trees had apparently not been properly cared for in the past. Hagn assuredthat the city will in any case provide for a replacement planting after the completion of the underground car park.

Tegernsee wants to put the topic of parking on a new footing

For Hagn, the underground car park is a “first domino” to put parking in Tegernsee on a new footing.

"We want a modern underground car park that is not only suitable for electric vehicles and handicapped people, but also controls the flow of users," says Hagn.

This would also include so-called partner cards or regulations for people who only park their cars in the underground car park from Monday to Friday.

These parking spaces would then be available to day trippers on weekends.

In a few years the central parking lot will probably disappear

“We have a traffic problem in Tegernsee.

And the question is whether we want to continue to provide the current number of parking spaces in the future. ”One thing is already clear: the city needs a replacement for the central parking lot in the center.

She leased it from the "Hotel zur Post in Tegernsee Rosemarie Neusen GmbH & Co. KG" until 2025.

It is completely unclear what plans are being made for the exploitation of the property.

"There is currently no prospect of extending our lease," said Hagn.

However, he is hoping for an extension at least once a year.

It is also unclear what will happen to the Horn car park. The city council last gave the construction of a parking garage at this point a lower priority in 2017 in favor of the underground parking garage extension in the spa garden. Hagn can now even imagine residential development there. However, it has not yet been publicly discussed. In general, according to the town hall chief, a debate must first be held about how Tegernsee would like to deal with the number of parking spaces. “Do we want to offer more or less?” In this area of tension, which moves between the needs of business people, hoteliers and restaurateurs on the one hand and the needs of residents on the other, the discussion must be conducted. "Blind actionism leads to wrong decisions," says Hagn.

Back to the underground car park: According to the contract with the Sparkasse, which has yet to be passed by the city council, the building application could be prepared this year and the EU-wide tender launched. “The goal would actually be for us to have the underground car park by 2025,” says Hagn.
