“Checkered blanket instead of Canaries” was the motto of this year's Fürstenfeld picnic.

But the plaid blanket alone was not enough - most of the visitors wisely had sleeping mats and umbrellas with them.

Equipped in this way, even the mixed weather could not spoil their mood.

A welcome change from everyday corona.

- It was the first large open-air event in the event forum after the lockdown, but the thick clouds over Bruck prevented it from getting too crowded.

Not everyone saw the situation as confidently as Georg Ortlauf from Gilching, who had come to the Fürstenfeld picnic for the first time.

“You can't always go by the weather,” he said.

"I have a nice company, the sun rises by itself."

With his girlfriend Tatjana Vogt from Neu-Esting, the business graduate sat down on an air sofa that didn't even have to be inflated with your own lung power. A few seconds of rocking back and forth was enough to fill the red beanbag with enough air. With a view of the monastery church, Ortlauf and Vogt enjoyed their first beer and were happy about the relaxed afternoon.

Markus Gandlgruber used a handcart to transport his picnic equipment to the monastery area - two carpets on which you can sit dry in the damp grass and a thick cushion as a storage area for the delicacies you brought with you.

“I'm a regular at the Fürstenfeld picnic,” says the Emmeringer.

Meanwhile, he fetches a box with antipasti and a bottle of red wine from the picnic basket for himself, his wife Tanja and their mutual friend Christian Selter.

The weather didn't detract from the mood.

When a few drops fell, umbrellas were simply opened.

But it didn't get too crowded in Corona times.

The few raindrops that fall from the sky in the meantime don't bother the three. And the visitors sitting all around do not flee either. A couple of umbrellas open and close again - it wasn't even a real shower. Children romp across the lawn, under the roof of the Waaghäusl, the Portuguese songwriter Maria Rui and her band sing the first song of the musical program. Visitors stroll along the stalls selling jewelry, hats, and handicrafts. You could even buy a deck chair here, a dealer has many colorful specimens with matching parasols.

Michaela Landmann, who coordinated the picnic as an employee of the event forum, wipes the beer garden furniture set up on the edge of the monastery meadow dry.

She is glad that the Fürstenfeld picnic did not have to be canceled.

"The main thing is that people are happy about the offer and enjoy the time."
