"Reinforced surveillance" for tourists returning from Spain and Portugal

Unvaccinated people will now have to produce a negative test within 24 hours on their return to France.


France is not preventing its nationals from spending their holidays in Europe this summer.

But it tightens the restrictions for the unvaccinated on return from two countries which are undergoing a sharp epidemiological recovery, Spain and Portugal.

The Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, announced on July 13 on Twitter a

"reinforced surveillance"

against them.

"Among the countries classified as green, Spain and Portugal will be subject to reinforced surveillance: the test required at the start must be less than 24 hours for those who are not vaccinated,"

he said. Following the presidential address last night, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on BFM TV that Portugal and Spain had not been classified as

“at risk” countries

by the French authorities but that the French were urged to be

"careful wherever they are this summer"
