In summer, the Zugspitz Realschule in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about to move: that will change for around 400 students.

- The Murnauer Blaues-Land-Realschule is a gem because it is still relatively new and has a pedagogical reputation like Donnerhall.

This is one of the reasons why it attracts the students - not just those from the northern district - like a magnet.

The situation at the Zugspitz Realschule is completely different. Structurally and technically, it is getting on in years, although the gym was only completely renovated a few years ago, and has to fight for every student.

In the opinion of District Administrator Anton Speer (Free Voters), it is important that the school landscape in the district is “in balance”.

Therefore, the Zugspitz Realschule should not be neglected.

In order to make the educational facility on Gamsangerweg in Garmisch-Partenkirchen more attractive again, the district council decided in the middle of last year to partially demolish and rebuild - a so-called hybrid solution. "Compared to the cost estimate from July 2020, differentiated statements can now be made," said district builder Alkmar Zenger at the meeting of the district committee on Tuesday in the guest house in Spatzenhausen. Thanks to an optimized space program, increased demolition and disposal costs for contaminated materials, greater depth of intervention and increased structural effort at the interface to the already renovated changing room of the gym, new findings from the building site and flood protection as well as claims for damages through the expansion of the combined heat and power plant, which is to be relocated to the location of the municipal works, the construction costs are according to Zenger "around 23.8 million euros". A dizzying number that Krün's mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger and at the same time the CSU district councilor believes does not mean the end of the flagpole. “By the time we're done, we'll land at 25 million.” An assessment that Zenger left uncommented.

Moving to containers for the new school year in September

During the construction work, which Zenger says will begin in September (“We can't go back”), there are no classes on Gamsangerweg.

Schoolchildren, teachers and administration are relocated and move to the container school on Bahnhofstrasse in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the start of the new school year.

The provisional facility on the site of the former PX last served as a home for the St. Irmengard schools during the renovation and new construction work on their furnishings.

"All contracts for continued use have been signed and will initially run until 2024," explained Zenger.

After completion, the Zugspitz Realschule should be up to date for several years. After all, the building will then not only meet the needs of the school, but also the energetic ones, which according to Zenger is "a matter of course". After all, the district is trying to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 at the latest. The Zugspitz Realschule should make its contribution to this. The roof areas are equipped with photovoltaic systems, the hybrid solution enables sustainable, CO2-saving construction.

As the former mayor of Murnau and ex-grammar school teacher, District Councilor Dr. Michael Rapp (CSU), also deputy district administrator, as an advocate of Murnau's (school) interests. He pointed out that after the renovation of the Zugspitz Realschule, the district politics had to deal again with the needs of the Blaues Land Realschule. "Then there is bound to be something to improve there too."
