Bars and restaurants request a postponement of the health pass in September

After the announcements, it's time for negotiations and adjustments.

Invited to Bercy this Tuesday afternoon, representatives of the catering, cafes and bars sectors intend to ask for a reprieve, the day after Emmanuel Macron's speech.

In question, the vaccination rate considered too low of restaurant employees, while the health pass will be imposed on them in the same way as it applies to customers.

This means that any employee must, in order to be able to work, prove that he has been vaccinated with two doses and that a period of 15 days has elapsed since the injection of his second dose.

He may also present a PCR test or a negative antigen test of less than 48 hours if he does not have a vaccination certificate.

A binding procedure

It remains to be seen how far the government is ready to go in the arrangements, while the imposition of a health pass in certain populations has a double objective: to limit contamination on site, and to encourage the French to be vaccinated rather than increase the number of PCR tests.

The restaurant sector generally anticipates the imposition of the health pass with some trepidation, fearing to lose a valuable clientele - the share of unvaccinated French people - with the risk of breaking the resumption of activity. For this reason, the unions hope to put on the negotiating table the issue of maintaining state financial aid (solidarity fund, partial unemployment ...) which was intended to gradually disappear.
