The Erdinger start-up Smart-Byte has launched its first game.

In it you have to avoid obstacles with a duck.

Erding - Five years ago, Mario Heubach from Erdingen founded the start-up Smart-Byte.

The company primarily develops software solutions for its customers.

Now it is launching a game app.

The game is called "Rubberduck Journey", in German "Journey of a Rubber Duck" - and that's what it's all about.

You play a duck “that meanders its way through a stream.

It is a matter of removing obstacles and fulfilling tasks.

Over time, the stream gets faster and faster and the game more difficult, ”says Marcel Chauvet, Business Development Manager at Smart-Byte, describing the approach.

You can also buy rubber ducks from the game

"Rubberduck Journey" is free for the user. You only have to pay in the in-game shop - if you want to buy additional content during the game, for example to extend the life of the duck. You can also order the various rubber ducks in real life in the in-game shop. “We have found a good manufacturer there. The real rubber ducks are free of harmful substances and TÜV-tested, ”says Chauvet.

Start-up founder Heubach came up with the idea for this game.

It took half a year to develop the app, says Chauvet.

He explains: “At the beginning, two things were important to us: It should come to the market quickly, but still be of good quality so that people don't put it away straight away.” They tried to incorporate long-term motivation into the game.

For example, there is a team mode in which you can achieve a high score together.

So far only positive feedback

The users are a central key element, says Chauvet. Naturally, there was also a group of testers who tried the game and gave it feedbak. “The participants varied from their early 20s to their early 50s. The end user often sees things that the programmer would never have noticed. The assessment of the users is therefore immensely important for further development, ”emphasizes the manager. The game is now available in the Apple and Android app stores. The comments so far: “Exclusively positive,” says Chauvet happily.

One of the first Smart-Byte projects was the “uAID” social app, which sends an alarm to selected contacts after a timer has expired.

She wants to create more security in situations in which you are traveling alone.

“It is our wish to continue to participate in the expansion of the games industry in the future,” says Chauvet.

A start was already made with the corona game "Viral Days", which Smart-Byte developed for a client.

"Rubberduck Journey" is now the first completely own game.
