The federal government apparently wants to abolish the previous designation of “simple risk areas”.

Spain had recently been classified as such.

Berlin / Munich - In the middle of the holiday season, the corona incidence is increasing in many countries.

It was only on Sunday that the Robert Koch Institute, the holiday destination of Spain, was officially classified as a so-called risk area.

The guideline value for classification as a risk area was a seven-day incidence over 50. Before departure, travelers at this risk level must generally present a negative test result.

According to a report, the federal government now wants to lift the previous designation of simple risk areas.

Corona: Government wants to lift classification as a risk area

A draft bill by the Federal Ministry of Health provides for only two categories of corona risk areas instead of three.

The newspapers of the Funke media group reported on Tuesday.

These are the previously existing high-risk and virus variant areas.

A classification like that of Spain as a so-called risk area would therefore be omitted in the future.

According to the report by the Funke newspapers, the following rules should apply to returnees from high-risk areas:

  • Unvaccinated people continue to be subject to quarantine when they return.

  • It should be kept that the ten-day quarantine can be shortened after the fifth day with a negative test.

  • For children who have not yet reached the age of six, the quarantine ends on the fifth day after entry.

Countries with particularly high incidences or where "other quantitative and qualitative factors" are present are defined as high-risk areas.

However, according to the newspapers of the Funke media group, the draft does not reveal a specific incidence.

Currently, the following applies: States and regions are classified as high-risk areas if there were more than 200 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days.

Corona: This should apply after a stay in a virus variant area

According to the report, a 14-day, non-shortening entry quarantine remains necessary if there are indications "that virus variants with particularly dangerous properties are present, especially if vaccines offer no or only limited protection".

Such regions are defined as virus variant areas.

According to the report, the regulation is expected to enter into force on July 28th.

This is still being coordinated with the federal states.
