Baku-Sana

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, stressed that terrorism, external aggression and economic terrorism represented by imposing unilateral coercive measures represent the most serious challenges facing the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, stressing the need for cooperation and solidarity among the countries of the movement to address these challenges.

Al-Miqdad said in today's speech during the mid-term ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held via video conference in the Azerbaijani capital Baku: Our meeting takes place today at a time when our world is witnessing great challenges represented in the open support of some countries for terrorism and the return to the atmosphere of the Cold War and the threat to use force To solve international problems, not to mention the cyber attacks and the deliberate impoverishment by Western countries of the peoples of developing countries, which led to a real threat to international peace and security, and seeking to abolish the constructive role of our movement in the international arena since the Bandung and Belgrade conferences.

Mikdad explained that the role of the Non-Aligned Movement seeks to achieve a safer world in which the principles of peace, justice, solidarity and cooperation are based on the principles of respect for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and equality of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, abstinence from aggression, the use of force or threat of it, and the resolution of disputes by peaceful means.

Mikdad indicated that terrorism still represents the most serious challenges that the Non-Aligned Movement must confront, considering that this scourge constitutes one of the most important threats to international peace and security, in addition to the challenge represented by economic terrorism by imposing unilateral coercive measures to stifle the peoples of the movement's countries and undermine their national options.

Al-Miqdad pointed out that the external aggression against the member states of the movement represents another serious challenge, which has been manifested in recent years by the tendency to manipulate the provisions of the United Nations Charter and promote distorted interpretations of some of its articles to justify described acts of aggression, stressing that what the United States is doing alongside a number of Western countries in Its aggression against Syria is clear evidence of that, which requires member states to stand against these policies, condemn all forms of aggression, and participate in the initiative (Group of Friends of Defending the Charter of the United Nations), which was formed recently in New York at the initiative of the friendly Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Miqdad indicated that during the past ten years, Syria was subjected to the most violent and heinous terrorist war imposed on it by countries that used terrorist organizations and various entities associated with them and foreign terrorists from more than a hundred countries as a tool to implement their subversive policies and achieve their geopolitical agendas at the expense of the security and stability of Syria and the countries of the region, pointing out that confronting this The terrorist threat requires cooperation between member states and support for their efforts in addressing it, implementing Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism and taking deterrent measures to hold countries that sponsor terrorism accountable and not allowing the fight against terrorism to be used as a pretext to form illegal alliances and without an international mandate, as the United States has done several times in our area.

Miqdad pointed out that the illegal coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union on the Syrian people have caused great suffering to them, had catastrophic effects on aspects of their daily life, and greatly limited the ability of state institutions to provide services and basic needs for them, which requires the member states of the solidarity movement to raise this issue. Measures and prevent their imposition on other countries The countries of the world have unanimously expressed their support for Cuba to stop these unilateral measures, and the United States and the West must respect the will of the peoples of the world.

Miqdad explained that the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine has continued since 1967 and the repeated Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people and on the sovereignty and independence of Syria and Lebanon continue, stressing Syria's refusal to prejudice the legal, geographical and political status of the occupied Syrian Golan and its determination to end any illegal foreign military presence on its lands. .

Miqdad reiterated Syria's firm and principled position in support of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on their entire national soil, with Jerusalem as its capital, while ensuring the right of return for refugees in accordance with UN Resolution 194 of 1948.
