The sirens in Schwabsoien are often difficult to hear.

The fire brigades should look for suitable locations so that the population can be better warned in the future.

Schwabsoien

- Schwabsoien's fire brigade commander Anton Sinn was allowed to sit on the mayor's chair at the latest meeting of the municipal council and explain to the committee where there are still problems with the alarm in the village.

He had a long list with him.

According to the commanding officer, Schwabsoien mainly needs a second siren.

The existing one on the fire station is insufficient.

Not everyone in the village can hear them, according to Sinn, the warning of the population is not guaranteed in the event of an emergency or a disaster.

And the situation can be confusing for the fire brigade.

When the siren finally howled in Altenstadt, Sinn was not sure whether it might not be the one in Schwabsoien after all.

Years of waiting for digital beeps

The technical equipment of the firefighters for alerting is also no longer up-to-date. The commandant reported that there are nine radio receivers in Schwabsoien.

Alarms are only sporadically sent via SMS.

The firefighters in Schwabsoien and Sachsenried are still waiting in vain for the long announced “digital beeper”.

The municipal council has been putting the 5,280 euros earmarked for this in the budget over and over again for years.

Local councilor and ex-commander Norbert Schmid did not spare criticism of those responsible.

There has been talk of digital alarms since 2006, he reported.

It should have been introduced for the 2011 World Ski Championships, but it did not even come to the 2015 G7 summit.

Fire department app as a supplement

“It is urgently necessary that we do something,” demanded Schmid.

And the rest of the ward council felt the same way.

The committee unanimously agreed to supplement the siren and alarm calls with a so-called fire brigade app.

When the alarm is raised, it provides the fire protection officers with specific information about the operation on their smartphones.

This has many advantages: For example, one does not have to race through Schongau if there is only a trace of oil in Schwabsoien, is an example that was mentioned in the municipal council meeting.

The costs for the app are manageable for the community.

A one-time fee of 750 euros is due, the price for the annual licenses is 300 euros.

Where could new sirens be installed?

On the other hand, the purchase of the new sirens, which the municipal council has not yet decided, will be more expensive. At around 7,000 euros, one of them is worth it. "So we need at least 14,000 euros," said Vice Mayor Michael Kögel, with a view to the fact that Sachsenried should also get a second warning device. The fire brigades have now been commissioned to look for suitable locations. In Schwabsoien, for example, Commander Sinn envisions the roof of the Berkmüllerhof or that of the kindergarten. The siren can also be installed on a street lamp. In addition, Sinn will check whether the existing siren on the fire station can be set higher. He suspects namely “that the gable breaks the sound”.
