He has entered this Tuesday in El Altiplano, the maximum security prison in the State of Mexico, the same one from which his partner and right-hand man

escaped

. Güero's lawyer, José Gabriel Martín Hernández Rodríguez, has assured that he does not know the details of the accusation, but that his client has entered the prison during the morning, according to the newspaper

. The drug trafficker returns to this prison after leaving those same facilities last May, when a judge acquitted him of the organized crime charges for which he had been detained since 2016.

El Güero, 80, promoted the criminal businesses of the Sinaloa cartel together with

and was not completely released when he was acquitted two months ago. He had been held in a building in the Buenos Aires neighborhood, in Mexico City, under 40-day detention that was extended while the authorities sought more causes to return him to prison. The Mexican government reported, amid the wave of outrage over the judge's decision, that the drug trafficker "could remain in detention if he was at the disposal of any other judicial authority for a different crime." Since then, the 32 state prosecutors' offices and even the chancellery began the corresponding searches to find new pending accounts of Palma with the justice to lock him up again.

With the memory still alive of the case of Rafael Caro Quintero, released in 2013 after a controversial court ruling, authorities seek to learn from past mistakes with other historical criminals in Mexico. Quintero, founder of the Guadalajara cartel in the 1980s, had been in prison for 28 years and still had more than a decade behind bars. Since his release, El Narco de narcos has become a headache for the Mexican authorities: he returned to business and today he is the most wanted fugitive by the DEA (the US drug control agency).

Arrested in 1995 in Nayarit, after his plane crashed, El Güero Palma first entered Mexican prisons for 12 years and was later extradited to the United States.

There, he struck a deal with the Prosecutor's Office and achieved a 16-year sentence in Atwater that was reduced to nine for good conduct.

As soon as he set foot on his homeland, he was arrested for organized crime and his possible participation in the murder of a deputy commander of the Federal Police and his bodyguard in Nayarit.

However, a judge acquitted him of these crimes and now the authorities are looking for a new strategy to put him back in that prison where he has resided in recent years.
