Health authorities in the United States met tonight (Tuesday) with representatives of the Pfizer company, and said at the end of the meeting that fully vaccinated Americans do not need a third vaccine at the moment.
Last week, Pfizer said they plan to ask the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for an emergency permit for another dose, the third in number.
This is based on evidence that six months after the administration of the second vaccine, its effectiveness decreases and it cannot properly protect against the "Delta" strain.
The online meeting between the representatives, which lasted about an hour, took place at the same time as giving the third injection in Israel to immunocompromised people, including heart patients.
Health officials said it would take several more months and more data to decide if the booster dose was necessary.

"Both Pfizer and the United States government share a sense of urgency in adhering to the virus, and we also agree that the scientific data will dictate the next steps in the rigorous regulatory process we are following," Pfizer spokesman Sharon Castillo said.
Pfizer has begun collecting information on antibody responses among those receiving a third dose, as well as data from Israel, and expects to submit at least some of it to the Food and Drug Administration in the coming weeks with an official request to extend the emergency approval for the third dose vaccine.
However, the final decision on the additional injection will depend on information collected from the rest of the world by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
