The city of Unterschleißheim has to save more than 20 million euros in the renovation of the Michael-Ende-School.

She has to part with one or the other wish.

Unterschleißheim

- Within two years the costs for the Michael-Ende-School exploded from 35 to 73 million euros today. The city is sticking to the new building of the ailing elementary school. On one condition: save, save, save. At the end of the month, the city council wants to decide on the design and concept of the new five-room building on Münchner Strasse. Until then, the budget is to be reduced to 50 million euros.

The information from the city, which was woven into the draft resolution for the meeting of the building committee, that a maximum of 50.43 million euros will be available for the new school building in the next four years until the planned opening in autumn 2025 is addressed to the planners and the parliamentary groups.

A wink with the fence post.

Early on, critics expressed concern that the city might overstrain its financial resources.

Affected by Corona, there is a risk that other obligations will take a back seat.

No rooms above the gym

"They are children!"

The planning dilemma is reflected in the design of the auditorium. Contrary to the express wishes of the teachers, the plan sees the auditorium as a rectangle. Rector Christian Filo renewed the appeal for a "round auditorium". The current draft is 674,000 euros cheaper. In practice, however, 500 primary school students would have to be distributed over 25 rows of seats. “They are children! Nobody can see anything from behind. ”Filo thinks that savings are in the wrong place:“ Better to spend a little more money for a sensible solution. ”

The planners believe that the savings target can only be achieved in the area. 23 million is a nice chunk. The Nuremberg office recognizes the greatest potential with up to 18 million in the already controversial plans for the gym. Previously isolated from the school building, the latest design locates the gym between underground parking spaces and technical rooms in the school's basement.

The gym is to be raised to the ground floor and parking spaces for cars and bicycles are to be distributed from the basement to the outdoor facilities.

In order to achieve the savings goal, it would be important to refrain from using it above the gym.

Earlier plans to place staff apartments or rooms for after-school care centers or music schools on a floor above were rejected by the planners.

Additional floors above the gym are more of a budget than expanding the school.

The “egg-laying woolly milk sow” was once upon a time

Opinions are currently still divided on the integration of external users such as the choir, the town band and the music school. The less space is taken over by external parties, the cheaper it is. One or the other city council counteracts the unconditional savings goal with the educational value of an integrated music school. "That belongs in a primary school," said Annegret Harms (SPD) and Jürgen Radtke (Greens) added: "If we save at the music school, we have to raise the money elsewhere." Martin Reichart (FB) takes a pragmatic view of the matter: it has to be at some point Elementary school to be expanded. "Then the music school will be thrown out anyway!"

What Reichart is particularly pleased about in the savings debate is the return to old insights: back to the original design without underground parking spaces and external people, to the clearly structured school.

"Back to the roots", rejoiced Reichart: The planning only got out of hand, "when the school turned into an egg-laying woolly milk sow with secondary use."
