Damascus University and the General Company for Engineering Studies signed today a memorandum of understanding to support and develop joint cooperation in the fields of research and training by establishing a research development center at the company's headquarters.
According to the memorandum signed by the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, and the Director General of the General Company for Engineering Studies, Dr. Tariq Hossam Al-Din, the two sides will cooperate in establishing a research development center in order to benefit from the technical capabilities and competencies of the company and the scientific and technical expertise of the university and their integration in the human field, infrastructure and laboratories.
The University of Damascus provides the opportunity for engineers working in the company to apply to graduate degrees “Master’s and Doctorate” which are administered by the university to qualify them and raise their scientific level, in addition to conducting research in areas related to the actual reality and work environment of the company, studying and analyzing them.
According to the three-year agreement, the company grants facilities and sets up its projects, laboratories, and database available to it to assist postgraduate students “Master’s and PhD” and researchers from faculty members referred by Damascus University to its research development center.
In statements to the media following the signing between the Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Firas Hanawi, that the Research Development Center will be opened pending the completion of its own equipment, pointing out that the memorandum is new of its kind in terms of scientific research in it, where master and doctoral research will be completed in engineering specializations.
In turn, the company's general manager pointed out that the memorandum is a framework for cooperation with the university and increased coordination for the next stage in order to achieve integration, stressing the company's keenness to develop and modernize the expertise of its engineers, which is reflected in the performance and achievement of the desired goal.
