“School without racism, school with courage”: This is the title of the Camerloher-Gymnasium in Freising.
But that is not the end of the job.
Freising
- “I am proud to be your godmother!” Emphasized Susanne Breit-Keßler, chairwoman of the Bavarian Ethics Council, when the Camerloher grammar school was awarded the title “School without Racism, School with Courage” on Wednesday.
Racism and exclusion have no place in the Freising Gymnasium - 95 percent of the students have signed a commitment to actively oppose any injustice.
Preserve a culture of remembrance
The "Camerloher" has always dedicated itself to the cultivated and tolerant interaction with each other, said headmistress Andrea Bliese. That is one of the reasons why she has been asked again and again in the past: Does the Camerloher even need such a title? Bliese means “yes”, because fair treatment is not something that can be taken for granted and must also be preserved through a constant culture of remembrance. Above all, it is important to her that courage is learned and lived at her school, so that this courage can grow into the adolescents so that they can “get loud” when necessary.
Although the Basic Law takes a very clear position, tolerance must above all be lived, emphasized District Administrator Helmut Petz.
In his opinion, society must position itself clearly and make it clear: “There is no room for racism here!” According to Petz, more courage and the courage to show a clear edge against any kind of intolerance.
Awarding the title is just the beginning
The idea of wanting to position itself officially as a school without racism arose in a P seminar, reported the spokeswoman for this project seminar, Emily Rudolf. In September 2019, the students actually wanted to offer workshops on hate speech, but Corona then thwarted their plans. In order to be active nonetheless, they looked for allies and sponsors, including teacher Yvo Fischer, and finally submitted their application. The awarding of the title is just the beginning, because now it is more important than ever for the students to stick together. "Today we all give each other the word to declare war on racism," said Rudolf.
Student representative Katharina Suchanek also wished to always receive people with open arms and hearts.
And Mayor Brigitte Mooser-Niefanger emphasized: “It's worth it!
You expand your inner wealth. ”Because only when there is equivalence, summarized P seminar leader Silke Hatzinger, can differences blossom.
With this program, the school shows decency and sends the students as ambassadors of human dignity, said Susanne Breit-Keßler in conclusion.
