The Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Engineer “Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani,” affirmed work to strengthen cooperation between Syria and Iraq in the fields of water and water energies, and to unify positions to obtain the water rights of the two countries.
In a statement to SANA after his arrival and his accompanying delegation this evening at Damascus International Airport on a visit to Syria that will continue until next Saturday, Minister Al-Hamdani explained that the visit comes to complete the discussions and work to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of water and hydropower.
The Iraqi minister expressed his hope to reach positive results in this visit through joint cooperation between the two countries and to unify positions to obtain water rights for Syria and Iraq.
In a similar statement, the Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad, stressed the importance of cooperation between Syria and neighboring countries in the water sector and the full sharing of the damage resulting from climate change and its direct effects on the region.
Raad explained that this visit comes within the framework of coordinating efforts, following up on procedures and topics that were discussed in a previous meeting during the first Baghdad International Water Conference last March, activating the work of joint committees and unifying efforts to obtain a fair share of water between Syria, Iraq and neighboring countries in the region in full.
The delegation accompanying the Iraqi minister includes a number of managers and technicians in the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources. They were received by the Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy, Yassin Sharif, and members of the diplomatic mission at the embassy.
