For humanitarian reasons, the government of the Dominican Republic reported that it reactivated exports to the neighboring country of Haiti on Wednesday after the closure ordered by President Luis Abinader for the assassination of Jovenel Moïse, which occurred just a week ago in Prince Port.

The decision seeks to maintain the supply of the Haitian commercial system, it was said in a statement.

The objective is to avoid general shortages, social instability and subsequent migratory flows.

"The sustainability of security depends a lot on the normalization of trade between the two countries. Haitian citizens need Dominican agricultural and agro-industrial products to meet their food needs," the document indicates.

The government assured that the implementation of this trade measure will contribute to maintaining peaceful coexistence in the border area.
