What is behind the surprising statement?
Berlin - Luisa Neubauer (25), activist of the climate protection movement Fridays for Futere, has managed to confuse her supporters and critics at the same time with a current statement. "Petrol and diesel are already taxed very high," she said in an interview with the Berliner Tagesspiegel, "and one can argue that a CO2 price on petrol hardly discourages people from driving, but brings with it a disproportionately high potential for aggressiveness." There are ways of exempting the fuel price from CO2 taxation.
That sounds like the position of parties like the SPD, which are critical of higher fuel prices because of the “unsocial” burden on car commuters. The activist might want to take the wind out of their sails with her surprising statement: “We don't have time for the wild search for excuses just to omit climate protection,” she said in the interview, “the vision should be climate protection to combine with really good social policy ”.
