Four Iranian intelligence officials have planned to kidnap an Iranian journalist from New York, the US Department of Justice announced tonight (Wednesday).
The indictment did not specify who the target was, but Misih Al-Jad, an Iranian-born woman who is struggling to wear the hijab in her homeland, said it was her.
The four, who are known to be in Iran, also planned to kidnap a man from Britain and three others from Canada to Iran.
The four targets are all critical of the regime in Tehran.
The prosecution in Manhattan said that Iran planned to lure the journalist to a third country, and abduct her there.
Intelligence sources even offered money to her family in Iran to betray her, but they refused to do so.
In addition, they hired private detectives to track down her Brooklyn home and family, broadcast a high-quality live broadcast of the property and consider a service offering to rent speedboats for evacuation from New York City as well as sea routes to Venezuela, Iran's ally.

Al-Jinad, 44, heads the "My Stolen Liberty" campaign, which opposes the obligation to cover women's heads in her homeland.
She told the New York Times that the plot shows that the Iranian authorities are "afraid" of her, "otherwise they would not have sent anyone to kidnap from here."
Authorities said the kidnappers were aided by another California resident who was arrested on July 1.
Niloper in Hadorifer is not accused of directly participating in the plot, but of financial aid to conspirators and violating sanctions on Iran.
She denies the offenses against her and she was released on bail.
