How can fewer flights and less noise be achieved?

There was now a controversial debate in the Langenbach municipal council.

Langenbach

- The Langenbach municipal council agreed that they would like to submit an opinion on the noise action plan for Munich Airport.

There was, however, a lively discussion about what exactly should be in it.

The trigger was an objection from Elmar Ziegler, who complained that one should not categorically demonize short flights, for example “within Germany”.

"For me, what's in there is simply anti-business," the CSU councilor exclaimed.

In the statement prepared by the administration on the noise action plan it was said: "The municipality therefore welcomes the fact that the need for domestic German feeder flights is also being reduced with an expanded, high-performance connection to the long-distance network of the German Federal Railroad and to the rail network in the region." For the required reduction in short-haul flights, it was stated that in the wake of the corona pandemic, video conferences were commonplace in many companies, and that there was often no need to sit on the plane.

According to Ziegler, the alternative by train is not always effective.

This is often too cumbersome and may take too long, he pointed out.

"Not everything is possible via video conferencing"

Ziegler received support from Josef Wüst (FW).

“Not everything is possible via video conferencing if you want to sign contracts.

When it comes to millions, you want to look people in the eye, ”argued Wüst.

When it comes to flights to Mallorca, it is something different to reduce them, he can understand that, said Wüst about so-called “fun flight offers”.

Vice Mayor Rudolf Götz (FWO), on the other hand, broke a lance for the railway.

He doesn't see the problem that way, said Götz.

The goal should be fewer flights.

It is good to "start" with the reduction in business flights.

Under these circumstances it was not possible to agree on a common line at first. From Hoyer's point of view, however, it was clear that a statement had to be made. At the end of the debate there was a slightly different formulation. According to this, calls are now being made to “reduce domestic German flights and feeder flights to a minimum”. But also artificially acquired low-cost flight offers should be prevented in view of the noise pollution in the area around the airport.

The municipality continues to call for mobile aircraft noise measurements to be carried out in its statement.

As Hoyer explained, Langenbach was "only affected with a level below 55 dB (A), but this is also perceived as a high level of aircraft noise pollution".

In fact, these are only average values.

An aspect that Green Councilor Verena Juranowitsch also pointed out.

Juranowitsch emphasized that it was not the average values that mattered, but rather “the individual maximum values”.

They are just as relevant.
