Opel Astra, a revamped 308

From 2028, Opel will only sell 100% electric models on the European market.

Until then, the German brand, which is part of the galaxy of brands of the Franco-Italian group Stellantis, intends to support the ecological transition by increasing the number of plug-in hybrid versions.

This is the case for the next generation of the compact Astra which will share its technology with the next Peugeot 308. Moreover, the two cars will be marketed with only a few months of lag.

While the 308 is due in October, the Astra is expected in early 2022. Other than the design, not much sets them apart.

Like the 308 with which it shares PSA's EMP2 platform, the Astra displays the same measurements.

With a length of 4.37 meters, the Astra is barely longer than the French sedan.

The sixth generation of the German compact inaugurates a new formal language.

This fluid and refined style is distinguished by the Vizor grille released by the latest Mokka, a balanced silhouette and a marked shoulder.

The interior treatment brings the Astra into a modern era. The refined atmosphere is based on two 10-inch digital screens (option) which seem to form a single digital panel. The infotainment screen is angled slightly towards the driver. Like the 308, the Astra multiplies driving assistance, bringing us a little closer to autonomous driving thanks to a multifunction camera located in the windshield, four cameras placed on the body (one at the front, one at the rear). (rear and one on each side), five radar sensors (one at the front and one at each corner), as well as ultrasonic sensors at the front and rear. These systems are associated with adaptive cruise control and “Stop & Go” automatic braking.

While waiting to switch all its European production to electric, Opel still offers a variety of technologies.

To its gasoline and diesel range shared with the 308 and covering powers from 110 to 130 hp, the Astra adds a plug-in hybrid version of 225 hp combining the 1.6-liter turbo of 180 hp with a 110 hp electric machine.

CO2 emissions should not be less than 30 g / km.
