The municipality of Herrsching will designate the route Summerstrasse / Rudolf-Hanauer-Strasse / Madeleine-Ruoff-Strasse as a bicycle route.

The local council spoke out in favor of this on Monday evening.

Cycling should continue to be allowed on the parallel lake promenade.

The district office signals the green light.

Herrsching

- Bicycle traffic on the banks of the Ammersee is a long-running political issue in Herrsching.

Now it seems that a solution is in sight, especially to defuse the conflict between cyclists and pedestrians.

The local council voted on Monday evening with 13:10 votes in favor of making the route Summerstrasse / Rudolf-Hanauer-Strasse / Madeleine-Ruoff-Strasse a bicycle route.

The district office has already signaled approval.

As a result, cyclists have priority there.

For example, you can ride next to each other on a bicycle street.

Motorized traffic is not locked out, but it has to obey these rules.

According to the municipal council's request, the 951 bus line, which should continue to run on Summerstrasse, will not be locked out in this specific case.

Traffic planner Dr.

Ralf Kaulen had recommended moving bus traffic to Mühlfelder Strasse and Seestrasse in order to "reduce conflicts between cyclists and buses to a minimum".

A 16: 7 majority rejected that.

Reason: To replace the heavily frequented stops on Dampfersteg and Landungssteg, a new stop on Seefelder Straße would be necessary.

And it was not only Mayor Christian Schiller who saw this critically - among other things because several parking spaces would then be eliminated.

Michael Bischeltsrieder (CSU) even feared that Mühlfelder Straße could collapse at some point if it had to take on more and more traffic.

Welcome alternative for many cyclists

Kaulen had previously presented his considerations for a continuous cycle connection from the new grammar school to the secondary school to the municipal councils. He assumed there were around 1,500 cyclists on the route every day - "that is enough potential to establish a bicycle road," he said. Kaulen counted around 675 everyday cyclists, 160 high school students and, in the future, 310 high school students. In addition, there are 350 to 400 cyclists who take the lake promenade on nice days - the new bicycle road should be a welcome alternative for them.

Speaking of the lake promenade: should it be closed to cyclists when the new bicycle road is set up? Or should cycling continue to be allowed there? Kaulen, Schiller and the head of the building authority Guido Finster explained that the roundabout manager Susanne Münster had made the closure of the lake promenade a prerequisite for the bicycle road in talks with the Herrschingen working group on traffic. A connection that would have sealed the end of the Fahrradstraße. The municipal council rejected this variant with 4:19 votes.

However, in an interview with the Starnberg Mercury, Münster contradicted the statements.

There were indeed considerations to block the lake promenade in order to "create enough potential for the bicycle road," she said.

After all, a forecast increase in bicycle traffic is a legal requirement for the order.

But she sees this potential even without blocking.

Fahrradstraße: "Signal effect for the place"

Münster spoke of a "misunderstanding" and praised the cooperation with Herrsching's administration and the local council.

"That is exceptionally well and good," she said.

Schiller's statement from Monday evening - "Now let's see that we can get the cow off the ice" - should not really lead to a work order.

In addition to the mayor, Greens, BGH and SPD spoke out in favor of Fahrradstraße. "We are strengthening pedestrians and cyclists", said Christiane Gruber (BGH). Group colleague Claudia von Hirschfeld spoke of a "signal effect for the place". “It is important that the bicycle road is so attractive that cyclists use it of their own accord,” emphasized Wolfgang Schneider (SPD).

Elisabeth Walch (CSU), on the other hand, said that an attractive bicycle street is “a contradiction in terms”. She even fears that cars parked in and out of parking spaces on Summerstrasse will be more of a danger point for cyclists. Fractional colleague Thomas Bader wanted to postpone the topic anyway until the railway underpass on Rieder Straße is built. And Johannes Puntsch (FDP) spoke out against the bicycle street in general. "We wanted equality for all road users, now it is tipping in favor of cyclists," he said.
