Lufthansa currently only flies around half as many passengers as it did before the crisis.

Nevertheless, due to the additional corona requirements at the airport, it can take a long time and become tight.

Frankfurt / Main - Lufthansa expects longer processing times for check-in in summer travel.

As before, the regulatory requirements of the respective destination countries for the air travelers changed, reports the responsible program manager, Jens Fehlinger.

In particular, checking the vaccination passports, test certificates and other entry requirements for each individual passenger take up additional time.

The corona distance rules in airports also led to more space being required.

Lufthansa: Longer waiting times at the beginning of the holiday

On the coming weekend, Lufthansa is expecting up to 76,000 guests at its Frankfurt hub due to the start of the holidays in federal states such as Hesse and Bavaria. Although the passenger numbers have not yet reached the pre-crisis level, the document controls could lead to longer waiting times, reported Fehlinger. The check is mostly done manually and requires additional time for each process. Lufthansa recommends that you carry the printed original certificates with you in addition to the digital proof.

"We want to postpone as many verification processes as possible before the actual day of travel and process them digitally as far as possible," said the manager.

To do this, approach customers proactively and offer to check the documents in advance.

Unfortunately, the test evidence in particular is very inconsistent, while the vaccination records cause fewer problems.

Lufthansa: increasing passenger numbers and more destinations

In the coming weeks Lufthansa expects increasing numbers of passengers, especially in European traffic.

Currently around 40 percent of the pre-crisis passengers are flown with peaks of around 50 percent on the weekends, said Fehlinger.

By the end of the year it could be up to 70 percent again.

The Lufthansa Group currently has around 520 of the former 800 aircraft in use again and is flying to over 80 percent of the destinations again.

Due to the concentration of intercontinental traffic and the associated feeder flights, the airline offers 192 destinations from Frankfurt even more than in the pre-crisis summer 2019. However, the destinations are served less often, the number of 1,800 connections per week corresponds to about 55 percent of the pre-Corona program.
