Germany has had a real night of horror.

Storms made life difficult for people in some parts of the country.

Considerable damage is the result.

  • In some parts of Germany, violent storms raged on the night of Wednesday (July 14th).

  • Streets were flooded, cellars overflowed and trees fell.

  • The fire brigade and police were in constant use - also because of traffic accidents.

Munich - This summer night left its mark in large parts of Germany *.

The heavy rain led to numerous accidents, and some of the fire brigade was in constant use.

The south and east of the Federal Republic were particularly hard hit by the freak weather.

Particularly tragic: One person was swept away by the floods and has been missing ever since.

Late on Tuesday evening, a disaster was declared in the Hof district in Bavaria because of the storms with heavy rains *, and there were 200 deployments here alone.

Because of the many calls, the emergency number 112 could not be reached immediately in individual cases, said the Bavarian Red Cross.

However, the emergency services had been assured.

Storm over Germany: fire brigade and THW pump out the basement

More than 50 fire brigades with almost 1000 people as well as 140 members of the Technical Relief Organization (THW) were in constant use to pump water from basements and to procure sandbags.

The city of Selbitz was hit particularly hard by the storm *.

The emergency services had to come there more than 120 times.

The primary school in Selbitz and some daycare centers in Selbitz, Köditz and Naila will be closed on Wednesday.

As a police spokesman announced early Wednesday morning, there were road closures in the entire district due to flooding and a traffic accident with two slightly injured people.

Accordingly, a car slipped on a wet road against a guardrail.

Storm over Germany: fallen trees and power failure - "people are desperate"

Streets and cellars were flooded, trees fell, and in some cases the power went out.

Fire detectors also sounded the alarm.

Initially, nothing was known of the injured.

The helpers worked all night, said a spokesman for the Hof fire department in the morning.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, too, the fire brigade had to pump out numerous cellars.

"The people are desperate," said the spokesman for the Hagen police headquarters in view of the multitude of full cellars in the city.

In addition, due to the

flooded streets, vehicles began to slide in places.

At first there was no information about injured persons.

Mud masses were also washed onto roads from slopes, so many districts were not passable.

Even the emergency vehicles of the police and fire brigade did not get through everywhere.

In the state capital Düsseldorf, the fire brigade deployed around 330 times.

According to the

Rhine should have

risen to a level of 5.49 meters by 8:30 a.m. - but that was not the end of the flagpole.

Storm over Germany: amounts of water fall from the slopes on the city

As the paper further reports, emergency services fought in Altena in the Sauerland region against masses of water, earth and debris.

Here, large amounts of water fell on the city from the surrounding slopes in several places.

There is talk of “massive slippage”.

There was also a lot going on in Mannheim and the surrounding area.

According to the

rainfall would have resulted in

fallen trees and flooded streets.

Vehicles were also affected.

In Hockenheim, two cars had to be salvaged because they were driven over a “street with a lot of water”.

There were also traffic obstructions in Heidelberg because of the masses of water on the streets.

Storm over Germany: accidents after aquaplaning - police investigated

On Thuringia's motorways, violent thunderstorms * with heavy rain and gusts of wind * led to five accidents by late Tuesday evening, in which three people were injured.

According to the police, in all cases aquaplaning was the cause of the accident.

Since the drivers were "driving at an inappropriate speed on the wet road", the law enforcement officers initiated fine proceedings.

With the relocation of low "Bernd", more heavy rain areas would move, especially in the direction of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, and ensured sustained high levels of precipitation there until Thursday, the German Meteorological Service had announced the day before.

The weather experts expected heavy rain and thunderstorms until at least Friday.
