Automotive: end of heat engines in 2035
France did not win.
The European Commission has decided to end the heat engine for new cars, but also light commercial vehicles, from 2035. At the beginning of the week, the French government hoped to obtain an additional period of five years for plug-in hybrid vehicles, that is to say those equipped with both an electric and thermal motor.
This will not be the case.
The only vehicles authorized to be marketed from 2035 will be “zero emissions”, ie cars with electric motors but also those using hydrogen.
Manufacturers point to a risk of employment bleeding with such a rapid transition.

To make this revolution possible, the Commission is asking Member States to develop a sufficient network of charging stations.
Manufacturers point to the weakness of this network as being a hindrance today to the purchase of electric vehicles.
