Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has expressed her country's rejection of the allegations of some German politicians about the Russian channel Russia Today in its German version, which they considered a tool to influence voters in Germany.
Russia Today channel quoted Zakharova as saying in a statement that such allegations by members of the high command and the German government are rejected, and that the accusations made against a highly professional Russian media that has millions of followers around the world are baseless, noting that attempts to discredit the channel's journalists The majority of whom are German citizens contravene Germany's obligations to guarantee freedom of expression and the pluralism of opinions enshrined in a number of international documents.
Zakharova added that Berlin, by attacking the media, blatantly undermines the values of democracy, which Germany declares a priority for, including outside its borders.
Earlier today, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Russia TV, in its German version, is being subjected to a real media war. It is surprising and sad to see how the original right of Germans to freely publish and receive information is being violated.
