The clock is ticking - the radome in Raisting will soon be given a new cover.

Preparations for the big day are already in full swing.

District

- The “zero tolerance rule” applies to the production of the new shell, said the managing director of Radom Raisting GmbH, René Jakob, in the district committee.

Therefore, the assembly date has now been postponed again by around two weeks.

During material tests, which several experts look at with eagle eyes, minimal irregularities would have resulted that had to be remedied.

Because the new shell should defy every storm for the next few decades, said Jakob.

That's why he came up with a cool new name for the project: “Radom 2055 + x”.

Jakob said three companies from the region are currently preparing to assemble the shell.

After the dismantling of the winter protection system (we reported), extensive work was carried out on the so-called "clamping ring", the connecting element between the concrete body of the building and the air dome.

The metal rails - a total of 140 meters long - were completely dismantled and then the 320 anchor bolts that connect the clamping ring to the building were checked for condition and tensile strength.

Giant ramp for the 700 ton crane

At the same time, the construction site equipment was largely completed.

This also included building a ramp for the 700-tonne crane that is supposed to lift the shell onto the building, said Jakob in the committee.

A 38 meter high wind measuring tower was also set up in order to be able to record and evaluate the weather data in advance and during installation.

A camera was also installed at a lofty height in order to be able to document the progress of the work.

Even if it is not yet possible to give a specific date for the casing assembly, Jakob assumed a point in time “mid-end of August, beginning of September” in the committee.

Then the weather would have to be right, he said.

The cover is currently being manufactured by a specialist company in Istanbul, where the actual cover is made from the individual strips, which are three meters wide and a total of 2.5 kilometers long, Jakob continues.

Currently, services with a total value of 1.6 million euros have been commissioned, of which around a third have gone to companies from the district.

Another significant part goes to companies from Bavaria, some tasks are, however, carried out by subcontractors from Austria and Turkey because there are no companies here that could provide such services, according to the managing director.
