The opening of the Al-Baath University Hospital in the city of Homs and placing it in service constituted an important tributary for the health sector in Syria in general and Homs in particular, through which medical students will be trained and rehabilitated at the university, as well as providing medical, surgical and treatment services to patients.

Dr. Abdul-Basit Al-Khatib, President of Al-Baath University, told SANA reporter: “The opening of the university hospital and its launch confirm the state of determination of the Syrians to rebuild their country through distinguished energies and minds,” pointing to the government support provided for the opening of the hospital, which constitutes an important tributary to the health sector.

Al-Khatib indicated that work in the hospital began in May of 2017, at a cost of 15 billion pounds, including 8 billion pounds for engineering construction and 7 billion pounds for the value of equipment.

Dr. Firas Zreika, director of the hospital, confirmed that it is one of the vital sectors that will serve the people of Homs governorate. It is equipped with the latest advanced equipment and includes all medical departments, general and intensive care, which includes 13 beds, cardiac care, which includes 9 beds, and emergency care, in addition to the presence of 10 operating rooms, which are currently equipped, 3 of which are ambulatory It also includes a family residence, a children's and women's ward, and incubators.

Zreika indicated that the hospital is ready for a gradual take-off and the provision of medical and treatment services, as it is currently receiving cold ambulances and urgent examinations, in addition to the laboratory and conducting analyzes, explaining that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is currently working to secure human cadres, including doctors and nurses, noting that university hospital directors have been directed to facilitate the procedures of assignment for nursing The hospital has been provided with 45 male and female residents of various specialties from Tishreen University and will later be supplied with resident doctors from Damascus and Aleppo.

The director of the hospital explained that an amount of two billion pounds was allocated by the government to complete the construction work related to the service building attached to the hospital, and that the construction of cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery and magnetic resonance imaging also needs equipment, and the necessary funds will be allocated for them later.

The hospital’s medical director, Dr. Burhan Konozy, said: “The hospital contains all departments, complete medical specialties, and advanced equipment, and it will contribute to achieving the educational aspects for students of medical colleges and graduate studies at the university, and serving the people of Homs governorate.”

Hamda Al-Nasser, Head of the Incubators Department, stated that the department is equipped and served with 10 incubators for premature babies, two ventilators, monitors, syringes and advanced equipment, with full readiness to receive patients in the women's department.

The nurse, Floranda Al-Hussein, Head of the Cardiac Care Division, indicated that it includes 8 beds with complete equipment such as a shockwave, syringes, and all the necessary medical and treatment materials for patients, waiting for the necessary medical staff to be fully completed. Integrated ophthalmology, echocardiography, visual field and retinal examination.

Dr. Mario Boutros, the chief resident general at the hospital, said: “We were dispatched from Tishreen Hospital to work at Al-Baath University Hospital, considering that resident doctors are the main nerve to work in any hospital, and our mission is to provide all medical services to patients and visitors.”

It is noteworthy that the hospital consists of 5 floors with a basement and a service building, comprising 300 beds, and covering an area of ​​13,000 square meters.
