During his academic career, which he started in 1971 after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Arabic from the University of Damascus, Dr. Ahmed Dahman sought to present what enriches Arabic literature and literary criticism through his research in poetry through different ages, producing 13 books during his research career, most of which are taught in universities Arabic.

Dahman, born in Hama 1948, received a master’s degree in Arabic in 1975 with excellent grades from Alexandria University in Egypt, then obtained a doctorate in literature in 1979 from the same university with honors. He authored 13 books dealing with ancient literary criticism, Abbasid literature, rhetoric and methods of teaching Arabic. And co-authored another section with a number of specialists.

Dahman also participated in discussing and evaluating about 180 research papers to obtain master's and doctoral degrees in Syrian and Arab universities in the fields of literature, criticism, rhetoric, and Islamic and linguistic studies.

Relying on his own scientific output, Dahman explained that his first book is “Abu Nawas’s Poetry in the Light of Ancient and Modern Criticism,” where he tried through the poems of this Abbasid poet and his life path to reach the conclusion that he completed a model of modernity in the Arab poetic gene, indicating that this book studies in Syrian universities.

Among his books is “Old Arab Criticism: Issues and Media,” in which he tried to look at ancient criticism from a contemporary critical perspective with the aim of highlighting the originality of this criticism and emphasizing that the ancients possess a critical sense that can be very close to contemporary criticism, referring in this regard to his book “Principles of Criticism and literary theory.

Dahman believes that the most important book in his scientific career is “The Rhetorical Image of Abdul-Qaher Al-Jarjani, Approach and Application”, which became a reference for postgraduate students in Syria and Arab countries, in which he talked about the concept of the poetic image and the difference between the literary, artistic and rhetorical image and the nature and types of the image, explaining The importance of the book stems from the lack of research on the subject of the image, as it is the third research prepared at the level of the Arab world in this field.

Among his books are also “The Popular Realistic Attitude in Abbasid Poetry”, “Ibn Anin Al-Ansari”, “Ubaid Allah Ibn Al-Hur Al-Ja’fi Between Pains of Regret and Ecstasy of Equestrianism”, “Methods of Teaching Arabic Language”, “The Arabic Rhetoric of Al-Bayan wa Al-Badi’” and other language books Arabic for non-specialists in conjunction with a number of specialists.

Dahman, who has authored a large number of critical and rhetorical research and studies that have been published in refereed scientific journals.
