The old man in Yau Ma Tei was knocked down by a garbage truck and was sent to the hospital in a coma.
At 8:47 am today (15th), a 45-year-old driver surnamed Zhuang drove a garbage truck along Dundas Street towards Sai Yeung Choi South Street. It was reported that he knocked down a person outside the Dundas Street garbage collection point in Yau Ma Tei. An 88-year-old man surnamed Liang passing by.
Liang Weng was seriously injured and fell into a coma. He was rushed to Guanghua Hospital by ambulance. He was certified dead at 10:13 am.
The police are blocking the scene for investigation.
It is understood that the driver of the garbage truck was suspected of not hitting anyone and drove away from the scene after the incident. The police subsequently intercepted the vehicle involved at the red tunnel entrance.
The police alleged that Zhuang Nan was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop after the accident, and failing to report the accident. He is currently being detained for investigation.
The Special Investigation Team of the Transport Department of West Kowloon Region is investigating the case.
