More space for pedestrians, significantly less space for cars: this is what Wolfratshausen's old town could look like after its redesign.

More space for pedestrians, significantly less space for cars: this is what Wolfratshausen's old town could look like after its redesign.

Wolfratshausen

- The major goal that the urban planners from Mahl-Gebhard-Concepts and the traffic experts from BPR Schäpertöns Consult have in mind is a barrier-free city center. “That's the big challenge,” said architect Andrea Gebhardt at the presentation of the preliminary drafts for upgrading the old town at the city council meeting on Tuesday (we reported). Against the votes of the three representatives of the Wor list, the committee expanded the planning mandate: The space in front of the Littig Villa on Beuerberger Strasse is also to be redesigned.

There are still preliminary drafts, many details will be discussed in the coming weeks.

Only in autumn / winter should the city council take decisions regarding the draft planning.

According to town hall chief Klaus Heilinglechner, citizens are not condemned to watch, but can get involved in the ongoing process.

The plans can be seen on the city's website in September, and a public information event will take place in the Loisachhalle on October 5 from 5 p.m.

Eight meter wide sidewalk in front of the parish church

The councils laid the foundation for further planning on Tuesday with 19: 3 votes, only the Wor list basically said no to the drafts by Mahl-Gebhard and BPR Schäpertöns Consult. In a nutshell, pedestrians should be given significantly more space between the music school (Untermarkt) and Paradiesweg (AWO dementia center). For this purpose, the B11 will be “reduced to a minimum”, explained Gebhardt, and the sidewalks will be “as wide as possible”. This also applies to the notorious bottleneck on the Untermarkt. In the so-called central area (Reiser-Eck to Schwankl-Eck), an agreement was reached with the Weilheim State Building Authority on a street width of 4.25 meters. This creates plenty of space: on the west side (city parish church) an eight meter wide walkway would be possible,on the east side (town hall) a five meter wide sidewalk.

The Weilheim authority, which has the last word on B11, insists, according to the architect Gebhard, that the entire course of Marktstrasse should be “in dark asphalt”.

The uniform choice of materials that has been striven for up to now - especially in the Marienplatz area - is therefore ruled out.

According to the will of the city council, the space in front of the Littig villa is now also being planned.

Because: Due to its prominent location, the square could "represent the beginning of the redesigned inner city" in the future, as Sabine Trinkl from the Town Hall Planning & Environment department put it in the resolution proposal.
