The book (Paris, an Arab Capital), translated from French by the writer and traveler Adnan Azzam, presents many facts and information that reveal the secrets of the West's colonial policy, plans and ambitions in the region.

The book, issued in Paris in 1995 by the French journalist Nicolas Beau, is 125 pages of medium size. Azzam added to it some studies and analyzes for anyone who seeks to understand the relationship between East and West.

During a book signing ceremony hosted by the Palace of Culture in the city of Suwayda, Azzam explained to SANA that the book talks about an important stage in the history of France and its racist view towards Arab intellectuals who arrived at the Sorbonne University in Paris since 1826, led by Rifaa al-Tahtawi, as well as the millions of poor immigrants who were forcibly brought in. From the colonial Maghreb countryside to contribute to rebuilding what was destroyed by the Second World War.

The book also shows, according to Azzam, the failure of Arab intellectuals to establish an effective Arab political, social, economic, cultural and humanitarian lobby in France with the presence of the Zionist lobby.

The writer Azzam shows that whoever reads the book and examines between its lines will find without trouble that our Syrian ordeal was woven and woven in Paris and London years ago, pointing to the importance of reading and understanding the implications of the book and others to know the Western mind and confront its Orientalist project aimed at maintaining control of the East.

Former Minister Rafea Abu Saad, a member of the Political Bureau of the Syrian Communist Party, who presented the book alongside Dr. Mahdi Dakhlallah, saw that the book presents the Arab reality and relations with France, chronicles many noteworthy events, and reveals the quest of some French politicians to control our region under the slogans of freedom, brotherhood and equality.

For his part, the researcher, Dr. Mansour Hadifi, former head of a university branch in Sweida, pointed out that the book is an investigation on the Arab presence in France, and it touches through personalities of businessmen, politicians and extremists, addressing the secret relations of these people with the French authorities, while providing an adequate explanation of the French colonial history and the Arab policies of the former French president. Charles de Gaulle and confronted by the Zionist lobby.

In turn, Dr. and researcher Fayez Ezzedine, former head of the branch of the Arab Writers Union in Sweida, pointed out that the author of the book shows the colonial situation that overshadowed the French claim that it is the country of civilization, culture and freedom based on hypocrisy and reviews the history of communication and interactive channels between France and the Arabs.

It is noteworthy that the traveler and writer Azzam, born in As-Suwayda, traveled around the world at the age of 24 on horseback within 1300 days. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Damascus University and a Master’s degree in Journalism from the Higher School of Journalism in Paris, and a member of the Arab Writers Union. Books and translations, and he produced and directed documentaries, as well as his journey (Syria Al-Alam) on horseback in 2019.
