An increase in construction costs was announced in the Freising Culture Committee: the expansion of the St. Lantbert elementary school will be around half a million euros more expensive.

- When the city council approved the project in September 2020, the total cost was assumed to be 3.85 million euros.
A two-story extension with four classrooms and a kitchen with dining room and staff rooms on the ground floor was to be built for this purpose.
Well, the project is still being built.
Even if, according to the latest calculations, it should now cost 4.3 million euros.
Building construction department manager Robert Naujokat justified the increase in costs as follows: After 50 percent of the construction work had been put out to tender, there were already 160,000 euros in additional costs compared to the cost calculation.
Expensive building materials
This is due to the price increases for building materials. This had a particular impact on the carpentry work, where initially there was no successful offer and the tender had to be repeated. Now there are four offers, of which the cheapest still exceeds the assumption from the cost calculation by 165,000 euros (32 percent). Naujokat could not recommend the option of stopping the project and waiting for perhaps a year to see cheaper prices. Because, on the one hand, one cannot reliably estimate how the prices will develop; on the other hand, additional costs would arise for downtimes and waiting times for the companies already commissioned,And thirdly, the completion of the additional class and all-day rooms as well as the kitchen and the cafeteria is urgently required by the school year 2022/2023. So if you continue the project, you have to expect additional costs for the outstanding tenders. According to estimates, this has led to an increase of 450,000 euros in total. And so you end up at 4.3 million euros.
Don't wait
School advisor Monika Riesch (FSM) said that you couldn't let a year pass and wait.
“Additional costs always hurt,” but there is no other option than to approve them.
Susanne Günther (Greens) emphasized that “this will not stop” and that such price increases will also have to be accepted for other projects.
Nevertheless, one should “consider how we should deal with it”.
Your suggestion: include such a buffer of ten to 20 percent when planning and calculating costs.
Either way: the culture committee unanimously approved the additional costs.
On July 22nd, the city council still has to approve.
