The Straßlacher local pond has survived an extensive makeover.

Actually very good.

Straßlach-Dingharting - The water lilies bloom white and pink in the water, grass snakes have already been spotted on the bank in the dead wood area.

In the evenings the frogs croak more lively than ever.

Straßlach had its pond renovated and prettied up and inaugurated it this week, albeit without an inauguration ceremony.

Circling the pond by bike

Only the barrier tapes that had sealed off the until then somewhat desolate pond since last September were removed.

Which has definitely been registered by the people of Straßlach.

On the first morning, the first people made themselves comfortable on the new jetty.

They circled the pond on their bikes and called out to the mayor, who was visibly pleased, how great they think everything is.

Hans Sienerth (non-party) also said at the press meeting with the responsible, local landscape designer Wenzel Kampschulte: "I am totally thrilled."

Nature comes into its own

When redesigning the water and green areas, emphasis was placed on allowing nature to come into its own.

Accordingly, there is an area in which there is a lot of dead wood, a wet meadow can catch the overflow if it has rained a lot.

In and around the pond, 50 to 100 plants and wildflowers are already or soon blooming.

So that the "visiting card" of Straßlach can be seen from the street when the Kampschulte recognized the pond, a small area on the bank was kept free from vegetation and provided with a Nagelfluhkante.

The small community had the whole thing cost 190,000 euros, although what was most costly cannot be seen: the pond was dug deeper, the old asphalt bed was disposed of and replaced with a sheet of plastic.

Seating is well distributed

There are also several seating areas that are spread around the pond. A long bench here, cut out of a cut oak, a footbridge there, giant stones that Kampschulte obtained from the area near the Krimler waterfall. Again and again he and Sienerth stopped while walking around the new town center of Straßlach. They enjoyed the flock of sparrows that hunted dragonflies among the aquatic plants. Listed the green frogs, common toads, newts that have already been sighted. And then sat down on the “wooden sofa” for the photo.
