The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Thursday a series of changes to the medal ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games that include the mandatory use of masks for all participants, a modified podium and guarantees of that the presenters will be vaccinated, in addition to that the IOC and the international federations will be limited to one representative each.
A statement from the IOC states that the measures have been taken "with the aim of making the experience safe for all participants, while preserving the essence of this unique moment, in which the Olympic athletes savor and celebrate the peak of his sports career ", in the context of the covid-19 pandemic.

Athletes, presenters and volunteers will be required to wear face masks and the podium will be modified with additional modules between the gold, silver and bronze medalists to allow for greater physical distancing.

The presenters will wait for the athletes on the field of play, and will not be part of the procession with the athletes.
The trays with the medals and the gifts (a bouquet of flowers and a small Tokyo 2020 mascot) will be placed on a table or a stand.
The presenters will collect the trays from the tables or stands and take them to the medalists.
The athletes will take the medals and gifts from the trays, and will not have any contact with the presenters.
Athletes will remain in their own podium module throughout the ceremony.
