Changes await the around 8,700 Catholics in the parish associations of Gmund-Bad Wiessee and Waakirchen-Schaftlach: Waakirchen's pastor Stephan Fischbacher (39) will succeed Wieland Steinmetz (69), who is retiring, from September 1st.

He takes over another parish association.

Gmund / Bad Wiessee / Waakirchen - A week ago he got the call from the Archbishop's Ordinariate, connected with the question of whether he would not succeed Wieland Steinmetz and thus also become head of the Gmund-Bad Wiessee parish association.

“I was expecting it,” confesses Stephan Fischbacher, who has been a pastor for the Catholics in Waakirchen and Schaftlach since September 2016.

"Because the position of the parish association manager for Gmund and Bad Wiessee was advertised twice, I dealt with it in advance - and also said yes spontaneously," says the native of Upper Bavaria, who now has to cope with an even bigger task than before.

The amalgamation of the parish associations is not connected with this. “The ordinariate is not aiming for this course,” says Fischbacher, who will be responsible for around 8,700 believers in the future - 5,500 in Gmund and Bad Wiessee, 3200 in Waakirchen and Schaftlach. "Pastoral employees, church administrations, parish councils and church bodies are at his side," emphasizes Hendrik Steffens from the press office of the ordinariate. The administrative management of the two associations will take care of all economic issues - from managing the employees to building matters to economic matters. "That makes the thought of such a big task a lot easier for me," says Fischbacher, who also has support for pastoral matters. Retired Deacons,Retired pastor Karl Hofherr and parish vicar Reiner Hertan will be at his side and will take on baptisms, weddings and worship services. In Waakirchen, community assistant Petra Kleinschwärzer from Weyarn will also provide reinforcements from August 1st.

Fischbacher says that the idea that every place has its sole pastor has to be said goodbye long ago.

But he will try to set a weekend for each parish and the services there.

Initially, he wanted to take more care of Gmund and Bad Wiessee.

Successor in the Gmund-Bad Wiessee parish association: Steinmetz says goodbye

For the 69-year-old Wieland Steinmetz, a year before the usual retirement for pastors ends a 40-year active career, which he last held for 16 years in Bad Wiessee and, from 2014, also in Gmund.

He will say goodbye to the patronage on August 15th in Assumption of Mary and then on August 29th in St. Giles.

Born in Saarland, he thought about his time at Tegernsee, where the believers had to cope with unions: “A parish association is always an emergency solution.

Every parish thinks it is being neglected.

The fact that I lived in Bad Wiessee and never in the Gmund rectory ensured a lot of independence in Gmund. ”It is now clear where the retirees are going: he has found an affordable rental house in Moosburg.

Parish Association Gmund-Bad Wiessee: New sacristan found

There is one more person to report from Gmund: Rupert Gerold (67) from Moosrain will be the new sacristan for St. Agidius from August 1st.

He succeeds Regina Killer, who is handing over her work to new hands just over a year after the death of her father Hans Latin.

"The footsteps of the Latin family, who have been sacristan for 56 years, are huge," says Gerold.

He will try to exercise his office as best as possible.
