Hundreds of thousands of shekels were damaged by a beekeeper after 32 beehives he owned caught fire on Wednesday, in a large fire that raged this afternoon on the slopes of the Golan Heights, near Jordan Park.

The fire consumed grazing vegetation in an area of about two thousand dunams.

Suspected arson.

The beekeeper Avichai Simner arrived every morning at his beehives, and was amazed at the extent of the damage caused by the fires.

"When the fire started, it was not possible to get close to the hive areas at all. Only when the light came on did I realize the magnitude of the enormous damage. The sight of the burnt hives when the bees died next to them tore my heart out," he says.

"The hives contained about half a ton of burnt honey, which I was supposed to get down. The hives could not be rehabilitated."

The damage done to the hives is estimated by the beekeepers' organization at hundreds of thousands of shekels.

According to Simner, this is not an isolated case: "Unfortunately, these are repeated cases. In the last month there have been many fires, which included grazing areas and dozens of hives in the north of the country, along with criminal incidents of theft and vandalism in hives. The phenomenon is only increasing."

"It hurts to see how arson, apparently by criminal elements, harms the labor of beekeepers and farmers," says Adi Bechor, chief operating officer of Hashomer Hahadash, adding: The strong fire. "

"Beyond honey production, the bee pollinates about 80% of the agricultural crops. Every time hives are burned or stolen, the food production is destroyed," says Opi Reich, director of the Honey Council. "I call on the new government, the Minister of Internal Security. "Amar Bar-Lev and the Minister of Agriculture, Oded Forer, to protect agriculture and budget for the recruitment of skilled personnel for the security forces, in order to combat the serious phenomenon of agricultural crime and promote in-depth investigation of arson throughout the country."

"The phenomenon is only getting worse."

Data from the Honey Council show that there has recently been an increase in incidents of fires and theft of hives throughout the country.

Today, there are about 510 beekeepers in Israel who care for 120,000 hives, of which about 80,000 are stationed in agricultural growing areas and are used for pollination.

Through the pollination of the crops, the honey bee contributes about NIS 3 billion a year to the agricultural GNP in Israel.

Another fire in the north earlier this week caused heavy damage to avocado and mango plantations. The new 'said that the fire broke out in three different combustion centers, and claimed that it was an arson.
