Argentine football is back: everything you need to know about the Professional Football League that starts this Friday

2021-07-16T00:10:10.563Z

After two cups that patched the calendar, there will be a 25-date league tournament. There are no decreases and on the third date the VAR would be implemented. The doubt? Its cost: $ 615,000 per game. The Superclásico on date 14.

The Copa América and the celestial and white euphoria for the title that Argentina waited for almost three decades.

The Eurocup and that sporting glamor that ended with the Italian Olympic round at Wembley.

The Libertadores and the Sudamericana, which recently resumed activity.

Everything is behind us and even if the rematches of the round of 16 of the international tournaments that so seduce for glory and dollars are still missing,

the indigenous championship is enchanting.

As much as there are a multitude of teams, the relegations have been eliminated and there are still no close possibilities of the return of the public to the stadiums, the local competition mobilizes the fans.

And finally, after two national cups that patched up the pandemic calendar, there will be a league tournament again.

What can you expect then?

The format

This Friday the ball will begin to roll and the opening match will feature the current champion, Boca, who will visit Unión.

We must not forget that he won the extinct Super League (2019/2020) and from that moment there were only two national trophies, the Diego Maradona Cup, which was also won by the xeneizes, and the Professional League Cup, the first title of the history of Columbus.

The 26 teams will play all against all on 25 dates

.

The finale is scheduled for December 12.

As the calendar will be tight

in these five months, five games will be played on Wednesdays

July 28, August 25, September 15, October 20 and November 24.

There will be no stop for the Playoffs;

the activity will only stop in the PASO (September 12) and in the legislative elections (November 14).

There will be no descents

As has been the case since last year, no team will suffer the drama of losing the category.

Of course, the 25 dates will be counted in the averages and will be added to the 13 that were played in the classification zone of the Professional League Cup.

The declines will only come into effect again next season.

The classification to the Cups

From those 38 dates, the general table will also be derived that will be taken into account to define the quotas for the Libertadores (champion, second and third) and the South American of 2022 (from fourth to eighth place).

Colón (champion of the Professional League Cup) and Banfield (runner-up in the Diego Maradona Cup and winner of the play-off against Vélez) have already qualified, respectively.

There is another place for the maximum continental tournament reserved for the champion of the Argentine Cup

.

In principle, eleven Argentine teams are guaranteed their place for next year's international competitions.

The classics

River-Boca, which has already scheduled a duel for the Argentine Cup for August 4, will be played on October 3 at the Monumental and will correspond to the 14th date.

The rest will face off as follows: In addition to the mentioned River-Boca, the rest of the classics will be played as follows: Independiente- Racing (5th);

Newells-Rosario Central (7th);

Lanus-Banfield (16th);

Hurricane-SanLorenzo (18th);

Gymnastics-Students (24th) and Colón-Union (25th).

The VAR

The political decision is made.

The idea is that this championship enters into force the VAR in Argentina, as has happened for a long time in other leagues on the continent (Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru).

The AFA wants it to be available from the third date

.

On Wednesday, without going any further, rehearsals were made at the Racing stadium.

Two games were played, each divided into two 25-minute halves, with the boys from the Fourth and Sixth Division of the Academy as sparring partners.

Situations of offsides, penalties and goals were simulated that were supervised by a group of referees located in the Ezeiza property, where the monitoring center that is under construction will operate.

There is an issue that has not yet been resolved and concerns the leaders:

the high cost of the VAR, which would demand 615 thousand pesos per party

.

In the League they want to know if the funds will come from a FIFA subsidy or will they be deducted from television rights.

Another situation that complicates the implementation of the technology are stadiums with difficulties for connectivity.

The pass market

The situation in the country has a direct impact on the economy of the clubs.

Of the one hundred reinforcements that there were, only 10% were made via direct transfer.

Boca was the club that spent the most and did not exceed 6 million dollars

distributed in Norberto Briasco (3,500,000 for 80%), Nicolás Orsini (1,750,000 for 50%) and Estaban Rolón (the termination clause was paid 500 thousand).

Quite a parameter.

River incorporated the scorer from Defensa y Justicia for $ 3 million (bought 80% of the pass) and accelerated the return of Enzo Fernández.

The rest of the majors did not make large investments.

Racing and San Lorenzo repatriated two old idols who arrived with the pass in their possession: Lisandro López (38 years old) and Néstor Ortigoza (36) as prominent figures.

Independiente only incorporated Joaquín Laso (free from Central).

Most of the clubs were reinforced with free or loaned players.

Gymnastics made noise with the arrival of Luis Rodríguez, el Pulga, captain and star of Colón, champion of the Professional League Cup.

Marcos Díaz returned to Huracán, where he was champion of the Argentine Cup under the three sticks of the Parque Patricios club.

There were some foreigners who chose the window over the financial situation and the stocks that limit the purchase of dollars

.

They are the least, of course.

Vélez closed a deal with Carlos Lampe, goalkeeper of the Bolivian National Team with a great job in the Copa América.

Paraguayan Jorge Morel arrived from Guaraní to play for Lanús and Hugo Fernández de Olimpia to join Defense and Justice.

The Ecuadorian Jeison Chalá ended up in Godoy Cruz from the Catholic University.

There was only change of technicians in San Lorenzo (Paolo Montero replaced Diego Dabove), Newell's (Fernando Gamboa to Germán Burgos) and Platense (Leonardo Madelón to Juan Manuel Llop).

An unstable item this time did not suffer so many movements.

Of course the ball didn't start rolling.

If you do not enter the arch in front, everything can vary.
